I was angry with my father for a long time for not loving me. I remember one time when I was playing ball with a friend of mine. He came out of the house and began to toss the ball with my friend and then told me to get lost. I was devastated. How a man could treat his only son this way boggled my mind. This and other events traumatized me severely to the point that it affected my interaction with others, especially other males. Forty years later I have a wonderful child who knows without a doubt that her dad loves her very much. I treat her with the love and respect my father never gave me just to avoid having her grow up like I did. Words and deeds do cut deep and last a lifetime, but love is more powerful.
